Tea Party - Rapunzel and Alice

“Well, there’s Snow White, Tiana, Ariel, Lottie, Aurora… I think that’s it.” Rapunzel said, checking off on her fingers.

“My,” said Alice. “That’s more than I expected.” She looked at the tables, and then back to Rapunzel. “What does one do at a proper tea party?” she asked. She felt bad for taking up so much time with questions, but she had no idea what to do here.

“Oh! Um… drink tea?” Rapunzel suggested with a sheepish smile. “I’ve never had one before, so I actually have no idea…”

“I do like tea,” said Alice. She smiled, much more at ease. She was briefly reminded of the last tea party she’d been to, and a couple of unsolved questions. “Do you know why a raven is like a writing desk?” she asked Rapunzel, who had seen much more of the world than she had. “I never figured it out.”

Wendy and Alice

“We can do most anything without grown-ups,” said Alice. “And have much more fun doing it.” She giggled and started up the bank, leading Wendy to a shady grove surrounded by flowers. She pointed a little further across the land, towards a small brook that led out from the creek. “That was where I found the rabbit hole.”

“Do you suppose it’s still there?” Wendy asked grinning at Alice.

“There’s only one way to find out,” said Alice. She started to run, half skipping, towards the brook. She had not been this way since her adventure. She had no idea what would happen, but the presence of another girl gave her confidence. As they got closer, she noticed a small patch of darkness nestled next to a bed of flowers. She turned to face Wendy, her eyes wide. “This is it,” she whispered.

“Oh my gosh, those are so pretty!” Rapunzel gushed sincerely. “Thank you so much, you didn’t have to bring anything, that was so sweet!”

“I’m sorry they aren’t more,” said Alice, still blown away by the scope of the palace. She felt a thousand questions bubbling inside her, but she tried to keep them in for the sake of decorum. Curiosity led to trouble, especially among royalty. But this girl was different from the other royalty she had met. Alice had very little idea where she was or what she was meant to be doing, but she was perfectly content to view the beauty around her.

“They’re great! I’ll put them on one of the centerpieces so everyone can see!”

She led Alice to a gazebo in the garden that was set with tables and chairs. There were already several people there, mostly royalty, but some who weren’t. “Sit anywhere you like! People keep getting up and changing places anyway. Would you like some tea? Cookies? Cupcakes?”

Alice hesitantly took a seat at one of the chairs. “Thank you,” she said. She put her hands in her apron pockets, as she did whenever she was nervous. She looked over the spread on the tables, lavish dishes heaped with pastries and beautiful china teacups. The women sitting around the tables seemed to be enjoying themselves, but they were unfamiliar faces. Alice swallowed her shyness, her curiosity getting the better of her. “If you don’t mind, your majesty, who else is here?”

“It would be highness for a princess, but please don’t call me that. Just Rapunzel is fine,” she was sure she’d told Alice that before, but she wasn’t going to say so. She wondered what kind of royalty the girl had been around. “There’s Snow White, my fellow hostess, my mother Queen Analiese, Jane Porter, Aurora, Lottie LaBouff of Andalasia, Tiana, Wendy Darling, Mallory,” who was a human-sized duck, “aaaand…” she looked around, “I don’t know that woman in pink with dark hair. I think she came with Wendy.”

Alice blushed violently. “I’m sorry, your hi- er, Rapunzel.” She told herself to relax a little. This was a tea party, after all, and not Wonderland. Not Wonderland. Tea parties were orderly and pleasant, and royalty was friendly and fair. She did need to get used to that. She smiled as Rapunzel’s words sank in. “Oh, I know Wendy!” Alice felt much better that she was familiar with other people there. It was not so frightening after all. “Are there other princesses here?” she asked. This was a palace, but she did not know how that worked.

(OOC: The reblog for my own entry didn’t seem to work, so I hope it’s okay if I enter here? I’m afraid haven’t done this before)

Alice wandered into the room the maid had shown her into, where a group of women were sitting around with tea. If this wasn’t a tea party, nothing was. It didn’t look at all like the tea party in Wonderland, and she was glad for it. She stood shyly by the door, unsure of what to do.

[OOC: That’s fine! Just hit reblog on this reply, then at the top, by “Reblog Text Post” click “as…” then “as a text” and it will reblog the whole convo that’s showing now.]

Rapunzel looked up and spotted the petite blonde girl waiting by the door. For a moment, she didn’t recognize her, but it all clicked into place. “Alice!” she exclaimed, and hurried over. “Please, come sit! Have tea and cookies and beignets and muffins! I’m so glad you could make it! Welcome to Snow’s and my tea party!”

[That’s incredibly helpful. Thank you!]

Alice timidly stepped further into the room, admiring its magnificence. She had never seen such a beautiful place. “It’s lovely to see you again,” she said to Rapunzel, genuinely meaning it.  Awkwardly, she drew some flowers from her apron pocket. “I brought these,” she said, but next to the decor of the room she could not help but feel under-prepared.

“Oh my gosh, those are so pretty!” Rapunzel gushed sincerely. “Thank you so much, you didn’t have to bring anything, that was so sweet!”

“Oh that would be lovely! It’s too bad we didn’t plan this out. We could have brought a picnic!” Wendy sighed. “But, maybe we can find some berries to make do with,” she suggested.

Alice grinned and withdrew a small package from her ever-full apron pocket. “I brought a few crumpets in case I got hungry while picking flowers. I always try to be prepared for adventures.” She tried to be prepared for everything, having learned her lesson about being caught off her guard.

“How marvelous! I’m so glad you had the idea to bring a small snack with you,” Wendy grinned.

The two girls finished rowing to the other side of the river with some chatter about a couple of ducklings they saw splashing around. As the little boat bumped into the land, Alice lightly hopped from it and pulled it onto a sandy area where Wendy could get out trouble-free. She folded her arms triumphantly. “This is the place!”
